Spacious family base in the heart of the Norfolk Broads

Whether you’re looking for a perfect home from home for a family gathering or celebration or are a group of old friends seeking a base for a get together Two Brickground has room for everyone.

Sleeping up to 10 guests in comfort with a cosy family home style there is plenty of room both inside and out to ensure a comfortable stay.

Our Location

Dilham is a small but perfectly formed village nestling alongside the River Ant – part of the Norfolk Broads network.

There is a vibrant village pub with a great menu and large garden. The true heart of the Village.   The Village hall puts on events throughout the year from the Pantaloons theatre group, Quiz and Chips and Burns Night Ceilidh to the annual Worsted Festival, celebrating the local weaving tradition.

Finally Dilham Staithe (just at the bottom of our drive) is a great spot for fishing – not sure if you’ll catch a lot but it’s a peaceful way to while away the hours

Further afield you’ll find glorious unspoilt beaches and, of course the Norfolk Broads national park.  For more info see our Plan Your Stay page

About Us

Hi we (Trevor and Sheila) welcome you to Two Brickground.  We are Norfolk locals and can trace our families back to the area for several generations.  Dilham born and bred.  Trevor was, until retirement, a well respected local builder and has done the majority of the renovation here himself, whilst Sheila has designed and planted the gardens.

Two Brickground is steeped in local history.  Above all it was originally part of a Victorian brickworks alongside Brick Kiln Barns next door.  The original kiln is still in the shared garden – somewhat overgrown – and consists of several furnace chambers with the ruin of a forge on the top.

One and Two Brickground were originally four brick makers cottages.  Clay was taken from the sunken areas that are now the garden for The Smithy and also the wasteland at the rear of the two gardens.  It was formed into bricks in what were open barn brick barns next door.  Once dry they were fired in the kiln.  To complete the process the finished bricks were transported by river to wherever they were needed and the Dilham & North Walsham Canal was excavated to join the Brickworks to the river network. The kiln was also used to fire a forge and so the local Smithy was also located here.

Many of the buildings in and around Dilham are believed to have been built with bricks from the kiln.

In the thirties the brick making had all but dried up and the site had many different uses including a rumoured undertakers!  In the 1980’s the site was all but a ruin and came up for sale. We always had an eye on the old brickworks and when the chance came to purchase what was then a ruin we jumped at it.  It’s now a family home for us at number one and a much loved & thriving holiday cottage at number two!
